One month ago, Leena Kannula joined FastoPayments as our Office Assistant. A straightforward hire for a straightforward role. Or so we thought.
More than the job description
What we needed was someone to keep the office running. What we got was someone who wanted to understand why the office runs. Within her first weeks, Leena started asking questions about our onboarding process, our merchant checks, the compliance side of what we do. Not because anyone told her to, but because she was curious.
So we leaned into it. Leena is now learning the fundamentals of KYC and AML alongside her day-to-day responsibilities. She is picking up how we screen merchants, what we look for in documentation, and why these processes exist in the first place. It is early, but the trajectory is clear.
The character thing
You can teach someone compliance frameworks. You cannot teach someone to show up with the right energy every morning. Leena brought a presence to the office that shifted the atmosphere from day one. There is a steadiness to how she operates, a willingness to take ownership of things that are not technically hers to own, and an attitude that suggests she is building something here rather than just passing through.
One month is too early to make big declarations. But we know what it looks like when someone fits, and this fits.
And yes, she is making us healthier
We should probably mention that Leena has quietly taken it upon herself to upgrade what the team eats. The office snack situation has been reformed. Rye bread has replaced whatever we were surviving on before. Lunches are next on her list. We did not ask for a wellness programme. We got one anyway.
If this is month one, we are genuinely looking forward to month twelve.
Welcome to the team, Leena.
